Loving a funny fishy tome
“Absolutely hilarious” and “authoritative text” are not phrases that are commonly linked, but Love’s book is both. There are enough facts in “CMTYWTKAFPC” to satisfy the geekiest fish fan. But they’re presented in a style that veers from the professorial to the surreally ridiculous in the blink of an eye.

Milton Love’s Marvelous Mind
It’s the most exhaustive compendium of knowledge about West Coast fish species ever created, with data on everything from range and behavior to colloquial names and flexion length (whatever that is), not to mention pretty pictures and occasional paintings of them all. But it’s also chock-full of riddles, historical interludes, poetic odes to forgotten fish experts, and “totally unrelated riffs.”

Just enough about “Certainly More Than You Want to Know About The Fishes of The Pacific Coast” to pique your curiosity
The language is approachable without being patronizing, suitable for students of Pacific fisheries and interested laypeople. The illustrations are brilliant, every page is adorned with glorious, glossy, full color photographs of the species in question – which is remarkable considering its $30 price tag.

Certainly More Than You Want to Know About the Fishes of the Pacific Coast
…The prose is so well done that one might be tempted to read it cover to cover. This tome would be a welcome addition to any fish lover’s library.
